Would you believe me if I told you that anyone can make bread at home? This soda bread that I propose to you today It does not require yeast or kneading. and you can have it ready in an hour. It is a great resource to prepare some good toast for breakfast. Go ahead and do it!
This bread is ideal for losing the fear of dough, anyone can do it! I have added raisins and nuts to give it texture and flavour, but you could make it with other types of nuts such as pistachios or hazelnuts, for example. It doesn't matter what kind of nut you use, it will be delicious!
It is not a bread that stands the test of time well, so it is a bread for make and eat the same day. It can be a good way to start a Saturday or Sunday, as baking it will not only allow you to enjoy fresh bread in the morning but will also fill your house with aromas. Try it!
The recipe
- 300 gr of whole milk
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 450 gr of pastry flour or normal wheat
- 50 g. oat flakes
- 30g. of chopped walnuts
- 30 g. raisin
- 15 g. bicarbonate
- 8 g. of salt
- 26 g. of honey
- 10 g. melted butter or oil
- We preheat the oven to 240ºC with heat up and down.
- While heating We pour the milk into a bowl and then add the lemon juice. Mix lightly and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Then We put all the dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, oats, raisins, baking soda and salt, and mix.
- We add the honey, milk and knead for 1 or 2 minutes by hand.
- Then, we pour the dough onto a floured surface and we form a ball that we will place on the baking tray.
- There with a serrated knife we make a cross cut about half a centimeter on the dough (I made it bigger because I wanted it for something specific) and sprinkle with flour, oats and some nuts.
- We bake at 200ºC for 35 minutes or until golden.
- Once done, let it cool on a rack to enjoy the soda bread.
